I am having trouble using the software program Home publishing 2000 with XP.
I have tried for hours trying to figure out why the program will not work.
It starts to load, but then freezes and then I have to use the task manager
to end the program. I also tried uninstalling it and re-installing it, but
to no avail. I am wondering if this program is compatible with XP...and if
not, how do I find that out and is there an update or something I can get to
make it work? I am a teacher and use this program to make awards, banners,
etc for my classroom all the time and I have a lot of files already saved on
this program from when I ran Windows 99. Can anyone help me figure this out?

Well the title kinda says a lot about possibly not being compatible with
Windows XP. You also say you used to use it with Win98, so that also tells a
tale of incompatibility with Windows XP. Have you tried running the program
in compatibility mode? I just looked it up and MS Home Publishing 2000 is
compatible with Windows 95/98 Win98 Second Edition and NT/2000 but not XP.
You might want to contact Microsoft to see if there is a specific way to run
the program in WinXP. If not, perhaps if you still have your Windows 98
system around to go back to using the program on that system. Since you
require the ability to open old files this is the only solution I can suggest
unless you can get a comparable XP compatible product and abandon your old
files.

I actually did try running it under compatibility mode and it didn't work
either. Weird. I tried uninstalling it again and reinstalling without
typical installation (limited?) and that didn't work either, but I did get
further than with the typical installation. I still have my older computer
(I gave it to my son), but it is really slow and doesn't always work right,
and I do not have a printer hooked up to it....so it makes it challenging to
use the program. How can I contact Microsoft to ask them about this without
getting charged? Thanks for your help.

Well if you have the Windows 98 install disk, you could install it on a
Pentium 3 system, something around 1000 MHz is quite fast with at least
256-512 MB RAM. You can get a used machine for around $100.00 no monitor.
As far as contacting MS without paying, you should just hang out here and
wait for a MVP to advise you about what your options are. If you get no
response, repost you question under Application Compatibility Group or
anywhere else you see fit.
