A
afairjudgement
Not really sure where to post this issue...but it's interesting. I set
up a home proxy server using puTTy (only way i could find how to do it
online) and Spoon Proxy (which isn't required but i run it on the home
machine).
Problem is, when I try to connect via puTTy from my work machine, it
times out. Thing is, it ONLY times out if I don't have some sort of
upload going from my home machine.
For instance, it works fine if I have uTorrent open and am
downloading/
uploading something from home. It's as if the connection needs some
sort of upload access (open port maybe?) before it can accept incoming
connections (if that's even what it uses, i could be talking nonsense
here)from my work PC.
Everything is fine if I keep a seeding torrent up at home, it's just a
little slow obviously since that bandwidth is being eaten up.
I checked the port forwarding and everything is how it should be...as
far as I can tell. It's a Netgear router.
Also, obviously when the connection gets stale after I have it open
for a while without activity, puTTy times out and i lose my
connection, having to reconnect again (not a big deal but would love
some sort of suggestion as to how to make that not happen).
Any advice would be very helpful!
Thanks
