A couple of days ago my home page was somehow changed from MSN.com to autosearch.com. I don't know why. I have reset the home page several times through Tools - both General and Advanced. The next time I boot. the autosearch.com page comes up. In addition, when I click on a subject - like this one - it always comes up a small square showing only the upper left section and I then have to click it to full screen. I have run every tool in Norton system works several times. All diagnostics appear normal. It also would not allow access to email but that has been resolved by contacting the ISP. Apparently, it had something to do with the password being changed or deleted. Except for these two annoyances, everything aappears to work fine

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Your home page has been hijacked.
Download the utility CWshredder:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

Unzip - close *all* instances of IE & OE, hit the executable and
follow
the prompts.

You can also download Hijack This from here:

http://www.mjc1.com/files/merijn/hijackthis.exe

Go here:
http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/

For instructions on how to use it; you have to post the log it
produces

so experts tell you what is good and what is malware

Try downloading, installing and updating the
spyware removers from the links below. Run both of them.

Ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Spybot S&D
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=download

If these don't correct the problem, then get yourself a copy of

BHODemon, available at
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm .

It does not need installing - simply unzip and run the EXE program. It

is easy to use. It will find the hijackware DLL files, and give you

the ability to disable them.

Hope this helps.

Roger, before I do this, I want to be sure this applies to my situation as well. The unwanted home page that is loading for me is msn.com! Specifically, it goes through windows.com, then reroutes to msn.com. I have never been an MSN subscriber, nor do I wish to be. I tried going into Remove Windows Components and uninstalling the MSN Explorer there (it was checked, and never was before), but it's still going to msn.com. I do NOT want this! I cannot apply any other page setting

This started happening after the latest Windows Updates were downloaded and installed. Does this suggest Microsoft needs to issue an update

Help would be most appreciated, as this is maddening

I should mention I have XP Professional, not the Home edition. The suggestion Bee made elsewhere does not seem to work with XP Professional.

Have you tried changing the home page through IE > Tools > Internet
Options > Home page ?

Good luck

Please a) quote the post you are replying to, b) reply to the original
thread and c) do not change the subject line. This is a news group, not a
chat room, and nobody knows what on earth you are talking about.

Thank you.
