Hi,

Im having difficulty setting up my home network. I have done it in the past
but having trouble since i reformated my computer!

My desktop computer is running XP Pro and connected to the internet. My
Laptop is XP Home and sharing the internet.

I am running Norton Internet Security and set this up correctly. Just to
make sure i even tried it with the firewall being off.

I have the two computers connected using a patch cable. I have successfully
shared the internet, but having trouble sharing files!

On my desktop xp pro, i have set the files being shared so that everyone can
access it but still doesnt work. At best, network places shows that the other
computers are connected but doesnt let me access them. As i mentioned, i have
successfully setup this network in the past so i have some knowledge, but i
seem to be having trouble ever since installing xp pro!

Please help.

thanks

Ok problem solved lol,

i read some other threads and simply by turning on simple file sahring, the
network started working. I can at least view my desktop files from my laptop.
It doesnt work the other way thou ie see laptop files from desktop :s hmmm

Also i would like point out that the option for turning on simple file
sharing is definetly in the wrong place!!

It can be very hard to get file sharing to work with Norton Internet
Security. I recommend un-installing (not just disabling) Norton
Internet Security while troubleshooting the network. Don't re-install
it until everything is working.

To protect your network from access by other Internet users while NIS
is un-installed, enable the built-in firewall on the XP Pro computer.
If Service Pack 2 has been installed, enable the Windows Firewall and
allow exceptions. If Service Pack 2 hasn't been installed, enable the
Internet Connection Firewall in the Internet connection's Properties |
Advanced. Don't enable the Internet Connection Firewall on the local
area network connection. Don't enable a firewall on the laptop.

If that doesn't help, please post a news group message with complete
details of the problem. Describe how you're trying to access one
computer from the other and exactly what happens when you do it
(including the full text of all error messages). I'm sure that
someone can help.
