I cannot get my home network up and running. The two computers "see" each
other but I cannot exchange files or share printers. I can share the
internet fine ....

Since you haven't given us any information about your computer or your
network, you can't get a specific answer. Go through this excellent
network troubleshooter by MVP Hans-Georg Michna:

It will pinpoint the problem area(s). If you need more help after going
through the troubleshooter, post back with the results.
