Hello,
I have THREE computer on a local network. TWO are XP machines and the third
is a W-98 machine.
When I only had two machines, it was set up so that if the XP machine went
on-line (via dial up) the W-98 machine could share the link. BUT if the
W-98 machine was on-line the XP machine would not share the link. This was
done without particular intent but by my taking the advice of the "Wizard"
that said that nasty things might happen if I let a XP machine use a
connection created by a humble W-98 machine.
Right now, the W-98 CAN share the link with the "old" XP's link but can't
share with the "new" XP. Otherwise, the network seems to be functional (I
haven't shaken it down, it's only be a day that I have had the "new" XP
machine.
Anyway, ASSuming the W-98 doesn't have a sufficiently "safe" interface with
the internet, I would like that when EITHER of the XP machines get on-line
via dial-up the other two machines on my local network can share the
connection. If the W-98 gets the dial-up, I suppose I will accept the XP
machines will not use it.
ALSO, just WHAT is the risk anyway of having a XP machine use some of the
bandwidth created by a W-98 machine.
Thanks
