Home Network Problem - File Sharing

Good afternoon.
I am having a problem with my home network. First let me describe what
set-up I have. The desktop is the main station (Windows XP Home). The DSL
router is hooked up to this desktop and so is the wireless router. Two
laptops connect wirelessly to the internet one with XP professional on it
(good laptop for name purpose) and the other with XP Media Center 2005 (bad
laptop for name purpose).

Now I have no problems accessing the internet with any of the computers. I
have been trying to set up a network where we can share files and printer
between the computers and I have one problem. The good laptop has no problems
accessing the desktop files and the shared printer and same for desktop. But
my "bad" laptop which is the newest by the way cannot access any of the files
on the desktop or the other laptop.

I went through all troubleshooting steps with no luck. Yes it has the right
workgroup name, yes I can ping the other computers, yes I ran the network
wizard, I can even see all computers when I select "View workgroup computers"
but when I try to click on the other laptop or the desktop I get the follwing
error message: "Not accessible. You might not have permission to use network
resourse. Contct the administrator of this server to find out about access
permissions."

What's going on? Is it because I am running Media Center....I am totally
lost as to what is wrong and I am a semi techie I guess...Even my expert
buds came by and could not get it to work. Any insight on what's going would
be greatly appreciated

Pete,

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

If the problem isn't a firewall or other low level component, then you'll have
to look at authentication. XP MCE is the same as XP Pro there, so knowing
whether you are using Simple or Advanced File Sharing, and what account is
enabled to enable file sharing, is essential.

But work on the problems from the bottom up, and test everything that you can,
methodically.

Got it to work looks like my zone alarm was blocking it...Did have to read
a lot of links but figured it out

ZA has a nearly hidden page which allows you to enable what you must have
enabled to allow printer and file sharing. This one bit me as well.

I have the same problem as Pete and Ruben. Can Anyone help??

Your symptoms may be the same, and it's possible that your problem is, but
please don't confuse the two. This guy (the OP) found his problem, so this
thread is essentially dead. So please start a new thread, with unique and
descriptive Subject, so we can help you better.
