I just installed XP Home on my home computer got everything up to date
and attempted to set up a Home/Small business network set up as I have
many times previously. It's using the edgeless topography. I've read
through the help docs and can't seem to find answers to my questions:

I've done this seemlessly in the past using the same computers.
Everything is connected the same way. My desktop has large hard drive
and printer. The laptop (which I have not changed anything on for
months) can not see my computer or printer, however it CAN see the
internet and get email, without a problem.

I've tried to ping the IP address of the laptop from the desktop and
vise versa, without success. Both computers can search the web without
a problem. They are both connected through the same router.

Please advise.

Thanks in advance!
Dan

Make sure File and Printer Sharing is enabled on both and firewall is
not enabled or if enabled, that the local network is allowed through.
You can block pings on firewalls, so recheck settings for LAN
Connections.
