Hi,

In one my company's branch department, they intend to use Windows XP Home.
The reason is their department head think the price of Home is cheaper,
and that department doesn't have much interaction with other departments.
I myself have the experience that XP Home is not convenient in a LAN
environment.
But I'm also thinking what the XP Professional's privilege are that make it
outstanding over XP Home.
Would someone give me some wise advice?

WinXP Home Edition lacks the following features:
- Remote desktop
- Domain validation
- EFS (Encryption File System)
- Device driver rollback, last known configuration, system rollback
- IIS
- Multiple CPUs
- Multiple language support

In a business environment, Remote Desktop, Domain Validation
and System Rollback can be very important!

Home can't join a domain.
Home is limited to a 5 computer network.
Does the department have more than 4 workers?
Does the department head know which 4 workers they want to have on their
network?

Thanks.
That department has 16 PC.

While the OP may need Pro, your information is wrong.
Windows XP Home is not limited to a 5 computer network.
But there is a limit of 5 simultaneous connections.
They are not the same and it is entirely possible Windows XP Home would do
the jog with their current 16 computers as long as the 5 connection limit on
each computer is not a problem.

Thanks for adding to my knowledge.

The 16 computers are only in that department.

Jason,
Here are some more questions that the department head needs to think about.
Who is going to do the tech support for this department?
How is the company email accessed?
Does the department need Internet access?
How would this be accomplished?

Shouldn't the purchasing decision be made by your employer's IT
department, rather than a department head who is clearly
technically-challenged?
