HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

In trying to rename the recycle bin, I typed "regedit"
into the search bar (as suggested in this forum
by "Shenan") and looked for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT in order to
follow the rest of Shenans' instructions. It wasn't
there. I
have "HKEY_CURRENT_USER"/"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"/HKEY_USERS"
& "HKEY_CURRENT CONFIG"
Why wouldn't "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" not be there and is this
important? Is there anything I can do about it if it is?
I have Windows XP Home.
Thanks to anyone in advance for any help/information
regarding this.

I am not as familar with Windows XP Home Edition as Professional, but if it
is like other things "Home", I bet you have to be in Safe Mode logged in as
the "administrator" user in home to see that particular branch - although,
if that is true, how strange.

Awaiting some "Home" expert to come discuss this... heh

Copy of my post to your first query:

This is the only entry you need to change, after closing
Regedit, right click Desktop and click Refresh.
Copy of my reg file:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}]
@="Garbage Can"

HTH,

You would have I think to be on *an* Administrative logon, but it can be
a regular user with Admin status. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ is an alias for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\ - see if that can be seen
