Hit "send", email goes to Outbox

In Outlook 2003, whenever I hit "send", the email goes to
the Outbox instead of being sent. I then have to
hit "send/receive" in order to send the email. Are there
settings to change to cure this?

This is for OL 2000, but it might help: Under Tools / Options, on the
Mail Delivery tab, Mail account options, put a checkmark by "Send
messages immediately when connected".
