History problem

The history is no longer working on my WEB browser (IE6 SP1 with the latest
hot fixes applied).

In fact, I have noticed, the history has stopped working on several clients
on our network (all Win 2K SP4), which leads me to believe there may be a
group policy setting that is disabling the history or one of the recent
hotfixes from the WIndows update site is causing a problem.

I have tried clearing the history and making sure there is plenty of free
disk space.

Please can you offer any help.

Hi,

I am having exactly the same problem with the history on IE6. The only bit
that works is View by "Most Visited". All the other views, "By Date", "By
Site", "By order visited today" come up empty.

I tried the link suggested, removed the History, Temp & "Temporary Internet
Files" folders, cleared the cache, etc and the problem still persists,
likewise removing IE6 and reinstalling also failed to cure the problem.

I am running on Win2k pro, fully patched, and would appreciate any
suggestions to resolve this problem.

Cheers

Phil

The most common cause of problems with History is interference
from a certain anti-virus scanner.

Ahh !! Thanks very much - disabling the internet filter on my McAfee virus
scan did the trick.
I'd never have thought of that on my own.

Hi Darrell,

You try to create a new User with Admin rights. Logon as new user. Does IE
History work ok?

If so, you can remove the C:\documents and settings\username\local
settings\history\history.ie*(e.g. history.ie5) folder while log on as the
new user. Here the username is the original user account.

Then logon as your original user and check the result.

You can also copy a msconfig.exe tool from Windows XP/2003 computer to your
computer and run it to disable Startup Group and all the third party
services.

Have a nice day!
