My friend has a five or six years old Minolta film scanner. He says when
scanning in black and white (grayscale) the histogram has moved off his
display, he can't "grab" it to pull it back on. He's tried uninstalling
and reinstalling several times and no joy. He can scan these black and
white negs in color mode and has access to the histogram there. Is
there some *.ini or pref. file or some other he's missing when
uninstalling? Any help would be appreciated. Sorry I don't have the name
of the exact Minolta model.

He is using the native minolta software that came with the scanner.
Thanks,

I'm not sure I understand what he's (not) seeing and what caused it,
but has he tried (temporarily) increasing the number of pixels to
display on screen (if Windows XP, Screen Properties|Settings|Screen
resolution)?

Thanks Bart, he hasn't tried that, I understand though, what you are
suggesting. I will pass it on. I don't know what the GUI looks like in
Minolta, having a Nikon film scanner, but my understanding is that the
histogram is on it's own little panel or pallette and it went off to the
side, off the viewing area of the monitor, and can't be dragged back.
He's using Windows 2000. Thanks for your response.

I don't have a Minolta, so take this with a grain of salt, but in
general terms:

The easiest way to fix this is to "tile" or "cascade" the windows - if
the software has this capability. Sometimes there is even a default
window arrangement menu item exactly for this purpose.

Otherwise, he may try to reset the preferences. Presumably, that's
where the window positions are kept although sometimes they may be
hiding in the registry.

Don.
