Highligting

Usually, when I highlight text in Word, I can either delete the text by
hitting back space or I can type the new text and the old will automatically
disappear. Now, I have to highlight and hit delete to get rid of old text.
I'm not sure what I did to change this...can you tell me how to put it back
the way it was. It's driving me crazy. Thanks
 
In Word, click on Tools | Options | Edit | check the "Typing
replaces selection" box | OK.
