My PC is using XP Home SP2. When Windows Explorer is opened, the My
Documents folder is always selected. Can XP be configured to highlight the
C drive (local disk) instead?

Sure can!

Go to the properties for Windows Explorer. On the target line, go all the
way to the right end of the highlighted text. Type in a space, followed by
C:\

Save and close.

Now when you open Windows Explorer you will be brought to the root of drive
C:\

Thanks for the replies.

I love these forums… had same question about explorer and ran across this
thread.

MS article 307856 addresses this request. 307856 expands on Bob I’s
reference and is specific to XP. Right click your short cut to windows
explorer, click properties in the drop down menu. In the shortcut tab on the
target line, enter the following exactly:

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,C:\

This will open explorer with the C: drive highlighted and all other drives
and devices shown. Some of the other switches only show the C drive or
change the folder view.

Cool.
