I am running a resolution of 1280x1024 on a 17" lcd.. When my eyes
get tired the small text on websites often get a little blurry and it
annoys the crap out of me.. Changing the text size in IE does
virtually nothing to the text. Is there a powertoy or something
(besides that magnifer tool in XP - I HATE THAT) that could override
or just make the text a little bigger?

Maybe not what you want but the easiest solution is to reduce the
resolution. Take it down to 1024 x 768, leave color depth alone.
That should give you larger text in all applications.
