Hi, first off let me say computers are some what greek to me so please bear
with me, I recently visited a site that I go to often, opened a post in the
forum and noticed at the end of one of the members post there was a little
box showing my IP address/server, which windows and which version of IE I'm
using. I have checked my firewall and its set up like it has been
always(enabled). What is the easiest/safest way to block this from showing to
all out there?

The only way to hide your IP is to go through a proxy. I would suggest
an anonymous proxy. There are free and paid services. I recommend the
paid services, simply because they are usually much quicker.

Here is one:

'Anonymizer' (http://www.anonymizer.com/)

Two things...

1) This is the way the Internet works, technically. You cannot stop your IP
from showing. If you did, you would lose connectivity. Only the
administrator of the server you connect to can see this IP.

2) People think it is cute to put this info into a program and display is to
you in a newsgroup. They do that to scare newbie's. The fact is that you are
the only one that can see it! No one else in the newsgroup can.

Relax, this is standard stuff that all browsers send. The remote
computer has to have your IP address, otherwise it has no way of
sending anything back to you. The OS and browser versions are
routinely sent, so that a web site can adjust to what you have, if it
wants to. (IMHO, this information is generally not used.) The
information can be spoofed - it's just a bit of text that the browser
sends, after all. Opera allows you to manipulate this data, and I
wouldn't be surprised if there was a Firefox addin for it also.

Consider using something like Tor for Windows. Comes from the Free Software
Foundation.

Cheers.

Why are you worried about it?
