Hiding icons

When I right click – properties on the task bar on my desk top (Windows XP
SP2) and then tick or untick the Hide inactive icons box, it makes no
difference to the icons. No arrow to show that icons are hidden, no less
icons, no more icons. And when I re boot the PC the sound icon doesn’t
re-appear despite having the “Show notification icon†tick in the sound
settings.

Please can anyone suggest anything?

Thanks

Hi Shane ,

You can customize the way you want your icons to appear or not to appear.
Right click Start/Properties. Select the Taskbar tab. Make sure "Hide
Inactive Icons" is checked and then click the Customize button and set the
behavior to your liking by selecting an item and using the drop down arrow.
Click OK, Apply and OK. That should do it.

Thanks

I have tried that and setting one icon to always hide seems to bring up the
"hide/show" arrow.

However the icons for "Onenote" and the "Sound" control never reapear after
a reboot although theyare ticked to always show and ticked to show icon in
the programs?

Sorry to hear that it did not work...hopefully someone else can provide a
solution for you.
