I'd like to create a user in XP that requires a password and that does not
appear
on the welcome screen. I've seen some tweaks in the past (can't remember
where) but was afraid to use them because I could not find an explanation of
how you would sign in if the user name is not visible. Thanks all.

Hi Ed,

You could d/load and install TweakUI from the Power Toys collection:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
When you open TweakUI, click on LogOn and uncheck users that you want to
hide from Welcome screen.
or
D/load and run the tweak from Kelly's Korner:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
(line 22, right-hand column --> Hide Users on Welcome Screen .....includes
the Unhide tweak, too)

To logon as a hidden user, press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice at the Welcome screen to
get to the "classic" Win2K-style logon, where you'd manually enter the
username and password.

Regards,

I have tweak UI and after examining the steps mentioned I have noticed another user that I haven't seen/not aware of
named *ASPNET* what is this??

I can hide it via Tweak UI but I can't see it at the "welcome" screen. Does
this work with XP home?

I would think that it would work with XP Home, but I only have Pro Edition,
so I don't know for certain.

Before you opt to hide the username via TweakUI, try pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del
twice at the Welcome screen to see if you do indeed get the classic logon
dialogue where you can manually key in the username and password in order to
load settings for that username.

Regards,

Yeah, I got it working now. I was trying to "switch users" But I needed to
log off first then "Ctrl, Alt, Delete" twice. Thanks all!
