Any freeware programs to hide unwanted tray icons?

Tried Tray Pilot lite but there is no configuration and it hides icons I want
to see and shows some I don't.

Are you using XP? Have you tried the built-in systray config?

(This might apply to Win9x too, I don't remember. Probably depends on
which version of IE you have installed)

Right-click the systray, select Properties.

Tick Hide Inactive Icons. Click the Customize button.

Right-click in the Behavior column for each app icon you want to
configure and choose Always Show, Always Hide, or Hide When Inactive
from the dropdown menu.

Click Apply twice, then OK.

Yes, similar problem, some icons stay visible the next time I logoff or
reboot.

Does not seem to apply as described anyway in '98SE.
Right-click the systray, select Properties.

"sign here". I put "Sagittarius"

(This will hide selected icons and do a lot more):

(This seems to have disappeared from the internet except for some
Russian site that I can't recall, but I kept a copy and uploaded it to
RapidShare. When you install it, the "tool tip" says version 4.02 but
it is actually 4.03. Here's the direct download link:)

Introduction

TrayManager, as the name implies, allows you to manage how your tray
applications make use of valuable tray space. It does this by allowing you
to determine which icons appear in the tray and which appear in its own
Start menu. This effectively gives you the convenience of tray icons, but
allows you to conserve tray space by consolidating many tray icons into
TrayManager’s own menu.


Windows NT/2000 Services

The Windows NT/2000 version of TrayManager runs as a system service. Since
this is the case, you can control its operation by using the Services applet
in the Control Panel. This applet allows you to dynamically start and stop
the TrayMan service listed in the Services applet's list.
