Hide tasks marked Private

I want to be able to hide Tasks identified as Private unless I do something
to make them visible. Is this possible? If not, what's the point of marking
a task as Private? What's the difference between flagging it and not
flagging it?

The purpose is to provide by-category listing of tasks, not to hide them.
