Is it possible to hide Scheduled Tasks from sight in control panel? Or
to hide certain tasks so they cant be seen? I am already able to lock
access to the tasks, but I want to be able to hide them all together.
Thanks

Just rename the appropriate .CPL file and it will no longer appear in
Control Panel. \system32 is the usual location for all .CPLs

Use TweakUI. Or if XP Pro, you can use Group Policy (gpedit.msc).

TweakUI

UNCheck: *.cpl | Apply | OK

the extension does not uninstall it and it can be executed by running that

appears in both lists, the "Show only specified Control Panel applets"
setting is ignored.

the .cpl file name extension in the %Systemroot%\System32 directory. Note:

powercfg.cpl, Printers and Faxes)

Note: This setting does not affect the Categories that are displayed in the

Thanks for your great info. I have tried the group policy editor, and
with that I am only able to prevent access to the jobs within the
Scheduled Tasks. When I try to remove the item from control panel as
you suggest, I do not find the "hide specified control panel applets"
under "User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\". I
only have Add remove programs, Display, Printers & Regional Language
Options. Under Display, all I have pertains to the display icon and
elements within it (ie screen saver, wallpaper, themes, etc). I have
thought in the past I have scene the options you mention, but for the
life of me I don't see them! I also have downloaded TweakUI and when
I view the control panel applet items, "Scheduled tasks" is not listed
although it appears in the control panel.

Bob,

Using gpedit.msc...
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel

Note: do not expand Control Panel in the left hand pane, just click on it.

Hide Specified Control Panel Applets is the second item under the four
folders (Add/Remove Programs, Display, Printers & Regional Language Options)
in the right hand pane. The first item is Prohibit access to the Control
Panel.

Now that you have mentioned Scheduled Tasks, it's a moot point. Scheduled
Tasks is a Namespace object and does not have a .cpl file.

{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF} is Scheduled Tasks.

While were on the subject of Namespace objects... Printers & Faxes,
Administrative Tools, Fonts, Scanners and Cameras, Scheduled Tasks and
Taskbar and Start Menu are all Namespace objects and none of these have .cpl
files.

I have no idea on how to hide Scheduled Tasks in the Control Panel.
