Hidden typographic marks

I'm suddenly getting paragraph symbols and little dots between words &
etc.when I'm composing a message, although this stuff is hidden in the sent
message. I must have toggled some view feature but I can't find it to turn
it off.What is it?

Sounds like you're using Word as your Email editor. What version? In Word
2002, you can find these settings on Tools>Options>View
