hidden programs

I seem to have picked up a couple of advertisement
programs that were downloaded to my computer without my
consent. I can not find these programs in either the
add/remove section or the program files. I suspect they
are hidden/not displayed programs and want to get rid of
them. how does a person go about finding and deleting
them?

This isn't the best newsgroup for that type of question. However... I'd
look for a program like "SPYBot" to help get rid of that stuff.
