Hello,
On my dad's website, www.gotscha.nl, you get a lot of ring tone pop-ups
etc..
He asked me to find out why they appear, but I didn't really know why,
since I don't know much about websites.
I hope anyone could help me track them down down and explain how to
delete them.

Thanks,
regards Lascha

I don't get any popups when I visit. I suspect he has malware on his computer that is causing the popups. Get a
good spyware remover like Ad-aware and see if that fixes things.

Hi

It appears to me that the popup ads on your Dad's site are being generated
by Webstats4u.com, via a
series of .js files.

Tell him to remove the WebStat4u java scripting from his html file and see
if the popup ads go away.

Thanks for the replies.

I ran the ad-aware se and spyware s&d, they did find bad files, though
deleting them didn't solve the problem. I've got 3 pc's and 1 laptop.
On all of them, I get pop-ups on the site.
Although, it also occurs (many times) that I don't get pop-ups, it's
random. After I click the link many times they show up. I've also
called the webmaster, he said there's nothing wrong with the site. So
I'm all clueless now...

p.s. the pop-up is named:

"http://ilead.track.it - Advertisement"
(the text in pop up is dutch)

p.s.s. I also get more pop-ups when using Internet Explorer instead of
Mozilla Firefox. (hope this helps a bit)

Hi,
So they come up after you spend sometime which indicate that you are without
Anti-Virus and Firewall to protect you from the Wild Web.
Go here and read on how to protect your Computers:
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/security/protect/alert.mspx
There are many Av free like but not limited to:
http://www.avast.com
AVG from http://www.download.com
Zone Alarm as Firewall to protect against intruders and hackers.
=> another to try is to see if your Hosts File is clean from Entries by this
Malwres, do access the HOSTS file do the following:
Open your Windows Explorer and Expand your Partition C:\ for Ex, the Full
path will look like this:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc this for XP
C:\Windows for 9X
and look in the Right Pane and locate the HOSTS file but not the one with
the Extenson .SAM leave this alone please.
If you can't see it try to Enable Show Hidden File from Tools >> Folder
Option on the same Window from your Menu bar.
Open the Hosts file in Notepad and Remove/Delete the references for any
suspecious web address and then Save and close the Hosts File then Reboot
your machine for your changes to take effect.
See this website on how to implement the Hosts file to block unwanted
websites:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
HTH.
Please let us now if you need more help.

You need to also be running firewall and pop-up blocking software.

IE 6 Sp1 (Windows XP SP2) includes a pop-up blocker

Zone Alarm Free is a better firewall software than Windows XP "lamed" built-in
one. Zone Alarm will also tell you which application is accessing the
Internet. XP's built-in firewall only block accesses from coming in to the PC.

I would be running Spyware Terminator (Crawler)

Most hacks (including pop-ups) usually occur on Internet Explorer (IE) since
it has the "largest" install base for Window PCs (it is installed
automatically with XP.) As more and more people use FireFox, the more likely
FireFox will become a target.
