I am trying to view all the hidden files and folders in the documents and
settings folder and somehow I made the entire folder disappear. How can I
gain visibility to these huidden folders and files?

go to control panel and select folder options, then select the view tab and
select "Show hidden files and folders".
Also, in some cases, depending on what you are looking for, then you need to
uncheck "Hide protcted operating system files". It is located in the same
location, two selections below the last.

volvo1982,

open Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View. Do you still have
access?

It's not related to your problem but if you create a shortcut pointing to:

%windir%\system32\control.exe folders

you just need to select the 'View' tab to change 'Hidden files & folders'.
