kgmalden,
First ensure that your file settings are set to show hidden files. In
Windows Explorer, choose Tools - Folder Options and select the View tab.
Select "Show Hidden files".
Side note: you can also de-select the option for "Hide Protected Operating
System files" - but this is not recommended because you could accidentally
delete an essential core OS file.
Next, when using Windows XP's search ability, the above settings are not
enough. When you choose Start - Search - Files and Folders you can enter a
file name, but also notice that you can select 'More Advanced Options".
Open that and you see that you can select to include Hidden files and
Folders, Subfolders, etc.
The Part about Hidden Files and Folders is not selected by default.
Finally, at a Cmd Prompt (Start Run CMD), you can see hidden files using
the Attrib command.
Type Attrib /? at a cmd prompt for more details.
