Hibernating Laptops

On my old laptop with Win 98 if i added ram i had to first delete the save
to disk partition and reset it to compensate for the added ram. Is this also
the case for Win xp? If so how?

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by "delete the save to
disk partition." Can you elaborate?

But, no, you don't have to do anything in Windows XP when you add
RAM.
 
I don't know if its the same for desktops but,on my older laptop (with Win
98) when i added ram i had to recreate the save to disk partition (a
partition on the hard drive specifically for hibernating) otherwise it would
not hibernate. Is there such a partition in Win xp?

Hi,

No, WinXP uses a hiberfil.sys file that exists on the root of the boot
partition. It will be dynamically recreated to accomodate the new ram when
you restart the system.

No. The hibernation file, hiberfile.sys, has to be in the root
folder of the boot partition.
