We have two identical Compaq laptops from a hardware standpoint.
It will take my wife's computer about 10 seconds to complete it's
hibernate mode when the computer hibernates. My computer takes over 8
minutes to complete hibernating mode. My wife's computer is basically
the same configuration as it was when she got it, and mine has been
"tweaked" a bit more. In my customization of the system, did I
inadvertently shut off a process that affects the hibernate mode? Both
systems have 60gb hard drives and 512 mb of ram. Hard drives have well
over half their space free. Both systems are uptodate with Windows XP
Home critical updates and both are running uptodate Norton's AV 2004
and ZoneAlarm firewalls.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Did you try comparing the services the two machines are running? If you
go into Control Panel>Admin Tools>Services>Action, you can export a list
of the services. How about comparing what programs are running and how
much memory they are using when you attempt to hibernate? If your tweaked
computer is using more memory or has more programs running, it will
definitely take longer. Is the hibernation file in the same place on both
machines? Oh well, just some things to consider.
