Big Al

I just purchased the Alera Technologies DVD-R Quad
Cruiser. When I plug it into the USB port on the front
of the computer, a window pops up with this message:
There are no HI-SPEED USB host controllers installed on
this computer. The USB Mass Storage Device will function
at a reduced speed.
Where can I get the hi-speed controller I need to make it
function at 4x speed?

Further, I noticed an insert in the blank DVDs I bought...
There are "firmware" upgrades to several brands of
internal and external drives available at this portal:
www.dvdrwservices.com
Unfortunately, Alera Technologies is not one of them.

Is "firmware" just a different name for a driver?
Is a "controller" the same as a driver?
Do I need this upgrade for XP, or is it an upgrade for
the DVD software?

This is all very confusing!

Any help you could provide would be GREATLY appreciated!
I don't know much about this DVD burner thing...

Thanks,
Big Al

Do you have USB2.0 ports on your PC? There is no driver to upgrade a USB1.1
port to a USB2.0 port... you have to purchase a PCI USB2.0 card if you do
not have USB2.0 ports already on your PC.

If you think you do but are still receiving the message, do you have XP SP1
installed?
