Hello WezEnTiger! Welcome to the forums :D

Can you tell us a little bit about what sort of computer you are after? i.e do you want a DVD Writer, a top of the range PC, build for budget etc...

amd athlon 2800xp WITH 333MHZ FSB
• 512 MB DDR Memory
• 80 Gig HardDrive
•latest s3 graphics
• 52x CDRW Drive
• 16x DVD Drive
• onboard sound with 6 channel support
• 56k Modem (Intel)
• 10/100 Network card.
• jetway motherboard
• ATX 350 watt Quality Case
• Also included are FLOPPY DRIVE, 2XUSB PORTS
( 2xUSB2) 2xCOMM PORTS, 1xPARALLEL PORT

Found that for 370 pounds !

But I have a GCard , Modem , Net Card , Floppy , CD Roms ,

So they are expendable to bring cost down if possible !

Id like to get a much biger pc , then tart my old one up and sell it to make money back !

What you guys reckon !

Thanks for replying and the welcome !

Soltek & nVidia

Bin the Jetway and S3 ...

Same sort of boat

I'm searching for the same type of thing and would welcome any good suggestions, along with good or bad suppliers (Novatech anygood?).

I am after a base unit with no modem, keyboard, mouse or fancy memory card readers etc. No monitor.

Would like

512 DDR,
80gb drive (don't store a lot),
good 3d card (mine is now 2 years old!),
top of the range motherboard (asus, msi, along those lines)
dvd player (burner not needed),
cd/rw drive,
at least 4 usb sockets,
decent 5.1 speakers (Creative maybe?)
a case with space (colour not a problem!)
and the norms (floppy, parallel, serial etc).

Any ideas ..... should make good reading.

Would have built one but can't be fussed now

To be honest, I dunno, never bought a barebones system.

However, a few things to look out for:

Nforce 2 chipset.
SATA & IDE support.
Name brand board, MSI; Asus; Leadtek; Gigabyte, Abit; Soltek, for instance.
Name brand RAM, at least 512MB; PC2700 minimum, PC3200 preferable; Crucial, Corsair, Twinmos for instance.
USB2
On board LAN
On board sound
Starting place for vid card, either ATI 9600 or Nvidia FX5200, either with 128MB
Minimum 350 Watt PSU, preferably known brand name, but not that important. 400 Watt preferred.
CPU at least 2Ghz, AMD XP2400 starting point.
Do you need Firewire? Motherboard has this?
CDRW drives, recommend Plextor, Pioneer, Sony.
Pioneer A106 is a good DVDRW.

Off the top of me head, can't think of anything else.

In general, be aware of 'bargain bundles' there will always be a weak point or two in there which you'll regret later.

You only get what you pay for.

Hope that helps :)
