Hi, need MS? / DELL? default XP OS disk ADMIN Password..

Looking at more down time, than up (7 days), I am back up now, if can get
what the password might be, REALLY NEED IT.

Details: re-installing system, downloading XP home SP2, kept crashing:
missing / corrupt file: WINDOWS\system32\pci.sys

to see if more minor?: "R"estore would have helped.
ELSE: would I make a procedure for installing ADMIN account, before
downloading SP2, with my own LOGON / PASSWORD
(Seems to me that was true to work, initially: my logon / password worked
1st time).
OR !!??:) Do I need that password to set up a ADMIN ACCOUNT, to start
with:))))

thanks.

Go to http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ and download the boot
disk, this will enable you to reset any system password on an NT class
operating system.

hi, could not quite discern what you were saying. In response to everyone,
what might me looking for would have included:

step 1: get dell / ms DEFAULT admin password: I know it exists, (for DELL
to try to gain $100 for a default password, seems worse than not right)
step 2: Control Palnel: user acct, create, name, Admin, create, enter pw,
(my case: account currently logged on to, turned into an Admin. Acct., works
for me, hope would be boot password as well) thanks

hi, not sure if you mean me, other. am trying to ask a serious question.
but if the way the os install process was made this way on purpose, then are
you agreeing, or making reference to my question. would ask to please be
straight forward. at any rate, if it's the case, then if you know the
answers appreciate a constructive response, else please do not repond.

not funny if happening to you. not talking about what may think:
a. install ms/dell xp-home; if have to reboot/ rapair from a brand new
installation, I should be the owner of the (seems secret) password. I am
assuming it exists, because dell had opportunity to give it to me ~5 years
ago.

this has to be a uniform / common password. someone out there know's it.

b. with above, someone is running one on us. dell, or ms? anyone have the
password? thanks

Your post is very unclear on just what it is you are looking for!
From reading every thread I take it that you are trying to do a repair
install and the recovery console is asking for a password? If this is so,
this weblink should help.
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

As the website states DO NOT press "R" (a password may not be needed) If
this doesn't help here is a way to bypass your system from asking you for a
password.

The recovery console needs the pasword for the person who installed XP, not
for just any administrator. If the install was done by a major PC maker,
you may need to contact them for it.

However, the password is sometimes blank. So, try just pressing enter when
you are asked for a password, it may help.

Or, if you can get into XP, even safe mode, you can arrange to bypass the
password by the following registry change:

Instead, just run REGEDIT (Start à Run à Regedit)

Navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Setup\Recover
yConsole
Set the DWORD SecurityLevel value to 1

No, there's no such thing. By default, the password is left blank.

Having regard to all thge other posts, remember that a blank (null)
password can be, in fact, a password ... if you get what I mean.

According to Michael Stevens website it is a bug in XP that will not accept
the correct password.

Interesting, but that must be a problem affecting only a limited number
of PCs; I haven't come across it, to date.

hi, summary: was looking for password (if exists) from dell - xp os disk
install (not as important once finally got system installed (wonder if buying
new ms xp op sys off shelf will exclude dell .dll's, need for admin password,
etc.);

QUESTION: Do I have to install Dell Drivers, does MS disk not install
needed drivers, / get updates for, e.g.: \drivers\pci.sys

Current Problem with trying to reinstall "My Documents", had a directory
(e.g.: myname) that was empty.. may have caused "My Documents" on new install
to be trashed. (using stomp backup mypc). QUESTION: is there a way to
re-establish "My Documents" Directory, without starting over? (have had
enough probs, pretty hosed up for app to allow this)..

sorry for untimely reply, enough probs with pc, had to skip online for awhile.
had not seen that site yet, thanks. It does seem as though there are ~5 to
10 sites that have good info, would like to see one that brings problem steps
(what if's) together. this site seems to cover some of them.

problem: (circumstances different now..) were that "it seems" there is a
dell password as installed? by using dell xp os install disk / driver install
disk (or is it ms? maybe not, according to thread below: Missing Step?); I
believe there is a password required, from the initial os-disk install:
Missing Step? I understand you can just hit enter, get a prompt? (if step
to get "Repair" to occur from there: Missing Step?

mintae: Things Looking at (missing step?) might be to suggest to people
that buying an updated copy of MS - XP, with service packs off the shelf to
get past worry of 2nd party, pc vendor possibly adding keyloggers,
passwords.. etc. (reference info comes up as installing os applications,
while firewall is up: getting info of uneccesary internet access through
some apps).

hi, have not been on for awhile, if no password exists, ok. note: dell xp
os disk; and that dell had a password / procedure ~5 years ago, when needed
it.

finding, combining procedures, and eventually may come across that step may
become necessary for me later...... but for your step, as have seen / heard
of that before, do you get a C prompt, if so what next? cannot do "Repair"?
thanks. any who read, don't fret, no longer a high priorty. complete
re-installs, may help me for documenting some good procedures.
