i am running win xp professional sp2 i tried to download wmp11 but it said my
copy of windows need validated ok but the product key i have is different
from the one microsoft says i had, h(hope ure all following this i know my
grammar and punctuation is appaling ) so as im trying to type in the new
product key its not having iot there is coa on the pc so its genuine what if
i reboot the whole thing and start from manufacturar scratch would that help
also how do i start from scratch

Do you have a Dell by any chance? Or perhaps another similar big brand?

Since Dell and these other companies are considered "royalty" OEMs,
there are actually *two* product keys!

The first one is the "golden master" one that Dell uses. This is the one
that will turn up when use programs such as Belarc (1) are Magical
Jellybean Finder (2). Also, this should be the same key found in the
winnt.sif file in the i386 folder from your Dell installation CD.

The second one is the one that is on the sticker for your specific PC
should you ever reinstall your OS. Instead of using it, use the "golden
master" one for now. But in the future if you perform a clean install,
then the key on your sticker will be the proper one to refer to.
