Hey! My backspace-delete and overwriting functions have disappeared

It's got me beat...

My BACKSPACE key will no longer delete words I've selected.

And I cannot overwrite words I've selected.

Any idea how I can restore these functions?

Thanks

As I've become accustomed to learning with Microsoft's lazy programming,
the backspace-delete function was restored through an Option referring
to something else entirely. Fixed both issues above.

WORD>TOOLS >OPTIONS>EDIT>TYPING REPLACES SELECTION

You were attempting to edit a selection by either deleting or overwriting
the text. It wasn't working. Then you stumbled onto an option to fix this
entitled "typing replaces selection". It sounds pretty obvious to me.

Aha! That's because you're a PC user and have been conditioned by MS to
make the mental leaps necessary to understand that

(a) the word TYPING also means BACKSPACE (a very loose association at
best), and
(b) one option setting affects a range of other (unspecified) functions.

Not very intuitive but probably routine stuff for PC users accustomed to
having to remember MS idiosyncracies and work-arounds

I was typing long before MS was even a company. Actually I started typing
back in the 60's on a standard typewriter. In the 70's some typewriters had
correction tape which enabled you to backspace over misspelled words and
retype with the correction. So Backspacing has always been a part of typing
to me and has nothing to do with MS. Why don't you stop trolling and go back
to your Mac? ;-)

OK, fair enough. I'll desist, but with one parting observation.

I've used both Macs and PCs extensively since 1987 and can switch
between the two without any trouble. My *personal* preference is for the
Mac largely because its software writers seem to have cracked the art of
simple, intuitive language in error messages, commands, help files,
option (preference) settings... you name it. Put simply, I hardly ever
find myself asking "WTF does that mean?" when I'm using my Macs.

Happy PC-ing!
