I recently bought a new computer and it came loaded with all these programs.
I am new to the computer world and I'm trying to figure out how to get some
of these 50 short cut icons off my desk top as well as having some of the
programs unistalled. My start up is somewhat slow for a new computer and I
am assuming that it's because of all the programs they loaded prior to me
receiving the computer. Can someone possibly help me?

Hi Misty,

Yes, computer manufactures are complete idiots. And
Microsoft can join them with the Windows System Tray and
User Profiles. This is because basically every freaking
company out there wants to use these which cause either
system performance problems to causes a users profile to
be in the 10's of MegaBytes which sucks for people who
have what are called roaming profiles. Anyway,

You can remove programs by clicking on Start | Control
Panel | Add Remove Programs.

Be careful because some software you need. If you do not
know what something is, a good rule is don't delete it.

The icons in the System Tray near the Windows clock are
started from the Windows registry. Which can be started by
clicking on Start | Run and typing regedit.

Be extremly careful here becaiuse if you mess up your
registry you may not be able to start your computer. Once
the registry editor is open click on the "+" signs to
expand the trees. navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\Run

Again be careful here because if you have AntiVirus
software installed it may need to startup from here.

Click on the RUN key and than at the top of the screen
click on File Export.

Give the file a name and select save. It should save in
your MY Documents Folder.

Now you can delete the starting program commands one at a
time. If you delete something you need, click on your My
Documents Folder and double-click on the file you created.
This will put all of your settings back.

This process is for advanced users, so be sure you really
want to do this.

When you are done, restart your computer.
