i try to set up my email account...everything seems to do fine till i'm
prompted for security:user name and password...will not accept any thing i
put there...says error-invalid user/password...what do i do?

It would have helped if you disclosed which mail provider it is.
If Yahoo, and your account is one of the free US-based Yahoo accounts,
then that would explain it. Those accounts don't get POP access,
only webmail access. You can pay Yahoo to get their premium
Mail Plus service, which does have POP access:

Some folks have success with a webmail to POP converter
called YPOPs:
http://ypopsemail.com/documentation/37-email-configuration/69-windows-live-mail

Alternatively, you can obtain a new email address that works with
Windows Mail, either from your ISP or from Gmail.

Are you using the name and password your email provider told you to use on
their instruction page?
