Hi, I have been having problems lately with my computer...

My computer occasionally lags up and acts really jittery. This is seen
especially when watching videos, playing games and moving the mouse cursor.
Also, my CPU Usage goes up to 25-30% without any applications running! This
happens completely randomly and not when I open a particular program or do a
particular thing.

I have run various virus, spyware and rootkit scanners and all turned up
nothing but a few cookies which I deleted. I have tried Disk Cleanup and a
De-frag and both havent helped.

Can anyone shed any light???

Thanks

Nothing seems to be taking up much at all... I tried taking a screenshot of
all the processes when it was working well and then comparing it to when it
was lagging but there was nothing different...

I downloaded it but do you have any idea how to use it?

Sounds like you might need this, or a similar program.
[NOTE - I have not used this. Only suggest it OR something like it.]

Bear in mind that lots of applications running in the background, specially
Av want to update, windows Bits updates engine, third-party apps looking to
connect to the updates server to get updates or check for new updates, can
cause a slow to your machine if not all been managed or scheduled to not run
in the same time!.

About the 25%-30% i think it may be normal as your NIC may connecting to
your ISP to renew the IP address so you see a spike ( a quick one, not ever
lasting one) an evidence on the Sync with ISP to get IP address or to say I'm
a live for a sec or two.

Go through these cleaning steps:
1... Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
you will see these Options:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs
| Advanced .

Click on General Tab (1st Tab on the left) and you will see a Button called
[ Clear History ..] click on it to clear your History caches, then click on
[Delete Files..] to delete Internet Files created over the time, click on [
Delete Cookies...] to delete your cookies left by visiting websites.

= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your
browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:
Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable
the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you need to Renable them one-by-one
later and see which is the culprit .

Hi Rueben,

Once you have installed SpeedFan, you need to look at the temperatures
being reported. If your machine has a high-end graphics card, then you
might have an overheating problem.

What you could do is note temperatures under normal (non-intensive
graphical usage) and then compare the temperatures when you are running
a graphic card intensive application.

I know on my dv8100cto with an ATI Xpress 200m. If I run a high-end
game for more than about 15 minutes, I start seeing my temperatures
climb considerably. I haven't bothered to check for DVD playing, but
depending on the codec used, the same could also prove true.
