Dear all

I am having a problem installing the windows xp pro on my laptop. The
installed version is newer than the one I am trying to install, could that be
the problem. what happens is that the computer boots from the cd drive and
then appears the screen saying that windows is updating files and then at
some point appears a blue window saying that windows encountered a problem
and had o shut down and recommends checking some things like, enough space,
etc.

Thanks for the help

First, it would help to know what you're trying to accomplish. Are you
trying to do a "Fresh/Clean" install or repairing an existing XP instance?
The version check notice appears because the existing XP contains a
Service Pack that the source CD media doesn't contain. The BSOD or
Blue Screen of Death is a "Dead End" street to a PC. An error that the
PC cannot recover from. It simply posts register contents showing the
status information when it faulted. It generally appears in cryptic form &
needs interpreting to find the "Root Cause". Without the Register dump
data it's not possible to suggest which actions to take to get the install
to run successfully.

To overcome the Version mismatch you can use a program called
"AutoStreamer" that embeds Service Packs into a source CD that you
burn.
