When you buy a new computer do you get an antivirus
software with it? If so how do I know I have it. Thanks

All depends whether you buy a package or not.
The pc you buy may come with just an OS and maybe an Office suite.
The retailer will advise you as to what is included in your purchase.

If you have already got your pc then to find out if you have AV s/w
installed look in the programs list for either Norton AntiVirus or McAfee
VirusScan. These are the most popular and most often bundled AV s/w to be
preinstalled on a retail machine.

You can download free AV s/w. such as AVG Anti-Virus from www.grisoft.com

Debi,
Every computer manufacturer I am aware of usually will provide one. Usually
either a Norton or McAfee product. To verify if you have one, go to: Control
Panel/double left-click "Add or Remove Programs" and look down the list of
programs. If you do not find one you are in trouble. Get one quick! Also
activate the XP Firewall.

Rather than the firewall in XP download and use ZoneAlarm, I find it much
more suitable, for my needs anyway.
