Today Curt Christianson attempted to dazzle everyone with
this profound linguistic utterance
Hi Jerry,
While I agree with most of your comments, I don't always
agree with your methods. The OP might not even know about
using a newsreader to view this forum, but that doesn't
make their query less important. I spent two years using
the ridiculous web format before I learned of the "better
way".
It is often necessary to resort to crudity to get through to
some people, Curt. As to posting, I have always esched web
groups because they slow and cumbersome, not because they are
bad with strange "handles". But, it took some rather blunt
whacking on me before I "discovered" that top posting isn't
nice.
A troll, yes, you may be right--but let's give the benefit
of the doubt to them. You have some good info to share--do
it. If it weren't for people like "Nutcase Rogers" and the
great duo, Ron's, I'd be lost.
Actually, I don't have much good info to share.
I can barely hold my own with my 2 PCs, despite a life
"devoted" in one way or another to computers. The problem in
today's world is that we don't have an "information
explosion", we have a "data explosion". We are being hit 24x7
with multiple fire hoses at millions of gallons per minute. It
is patently impossible to sort out the "infomation" from the
"data" by eliminating what engineers call "noise".
If I make a contribution here at all, it is to lend some
perspective to real-world experiences and to bring them that
shill for my fav company back down to earth. Like you and most
other "old hands" at this, the saying "if it can happen, it
probably has - to me" applies.
While I whole-heartedly believe in an individuals right to
free speech, why do people feel that this NG is *the* place
to vent their complaints with MS??
If you go to a car NG, you hear about how shitting cars can
be, especially American cars. If you go to a digital
photography NG, you hear complaints in one form or another
about cameras, graphics software, etc. So, it should not be a
suprise that /millions/ of otherwise polite men and women
simply hate Microsoft and everything it stands for. Think
about it, what have they done for you that you really like
lately, at a price you can afford - but most importantly -
without subjecting you to a violation of the 4th and 5th
Amendments. The last is what is being violated when /you/ have
to "prove" that your O/S is legit. WTF?!
My only comment is that *I chose* MS and XP, if I don't
like it there's a Mac or Linux. If there's anyone to bitch
at or about, *IT's Me*.
I "chose" in exactly the same way you did, Curt. More
correctly, you and I made what doctors call "diagnosis by
exclusion", meaning we didn't like Mac OS X or Linux, didn't
want to write our own, wanted to be compatible with the rest
of the world, which left us with Windoze. And, the reason I
spell it that way is that SP2 does "doze", compared to SP1,
Win 98, Win 95, and Win 3.1, each of which I ran with orders
of magnitude less CPU, RAM, HD and mobo speed.
MS, XP, or Vista will have their naysayers, but why spend
the energy complaining in this forum? We (or I) is here to
help. I'm a W98SE fan, but I hope to learn enough to be
useful here.
I just took down my last Win 98 SE PC. But, to your question,
again I will "defend" myself and all others who feel similarly
by simply saying if somebody doesn't point this stuff out, how
are the real newbies to know?
Take care, this was in no way a slam,
You, too. I take no umbrage at what you said principly because
of the way you said it, and the way you did /not/ say it.
