My computer is so messed up, I need help now. What do I do?? There are
several issues I'm sure and I'm not qualified to fix them. I'm sure that they
all require fairly simple fixes, I'm just not sure where to go to find the
help.

Hi Stace,
Without knowing what the issues are it's a little difficult to help.
However, this site is an excellent starting point. You can either post here
or do a search and begin finding answers to your question.

If the computer is really, seriously "messed up" you might consider having
it reloaded. Make sure you have your data backed up somewhere.

Google (or your search engine of choice) is also a good reference. If you
type in a description of the problem(s) you are having you'll find lots of
answers.

Hi Mike, thanks for the response. I have been having some difficulty working
with my IE 7. When I try to uninstall it so that I can do a new, clean
installation a flag comes up saying that it cannot find a file "iseep" or
something like that and the uninstall is cancelled from there. Also, my virus
program keeps having a system error that forces it to shut down and then an
error report gets sent and then....nothing. Oh, boy this could take all day.
Is there anything that I can do for now?

Stace, IE7 is still in beta form and really shouldn't be used by anyone not
familiar with the pitfalls of doing so.
Have your tried a repair or reinstall of IE7? Which antivirus software?

Nice try, troll. haven't you imbeciles figured out that no one
credible will attempt to "help" with a subject line and
description of your alleged problem like the above?

Take you incompetent self and PC to a local computer store -
most have a $99.99-we-ll-fix-anything tech support plan. And,
get yourself a competant NNTP news reader - not outhouse
depressed and not Google Groups.

Hi Mike, thanks for the response. I have been having some

Are you learning impaired or just plain stupid? You're running
beta software, and Microcrap at that, and you wonder how/why you
system is hosed and what to do about it? What a maroon!

When I try to uninstall it

You're welcome to keep comments like those to yourself. If you prefer not to
help then don't. But there is no reason to berate someone who is asking for
assistance.

Have you tried to do a system restore? Go to Start>All
Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. You "might" be able to
restore the PC to the way it was before the IE7 update.

If that does not work if you get the exact name of the file that it is
looking for we might be able to help you with it.

Here is some information that might help.

What a useful post, nothing to do today so we're just
trolling?
hardly. not a day goes by, though, when some idiot posts "help,
help, help, please help! how the hell is anyone gonna help when
there is no useful information, not even an data (there's a
difference). so, I occasionally make fun of those mentally
challenged.

about the only thing I've seen an MVP post in quite a long time
is the KB to attempt to "teach" people how to - and how not to -
post to Usenet when soliciting help.

no "help" was requested, just a different kinda trolling for
other idiots. I'll pound on imbeciles any time I please, thank
you. want more yourself or are you going to say something even
1% intelligent about this situation?

people using IE7 shouldn't even be posting here, not to mention
the absurdity of hosing one's own system with beta code. hasn't
the OP and the others in this thread ever heard about who should
beta and who shouldn't? and, doesn't anyone around here
understand that IE is tentacled throughout Windoze and can be
quite challenging to uninstall or repair? and, has anyone play
with this demonstrable POS had the remotest brights to create a
separate partition on their HD, or preferably, use a dedicated
beta machine? finally, how much do the intelligence-challenged
have to do to figure out that helping Bill the Gates isn't?

Hi Jerry,

While I agree with most of your comments, I don't always agree with your
methods. The OP might not even know about using a newsreader to view this
forum, but that doesn't make their query less important. I spent two years
using the ridiculous web format before I learned of the "better way".

A troll, yes, you may be right--but let's give the benefit of the doubt to
them. You have some good info to share--do it. If it weren't for people
like "Nutcase Rogers" and the great duo, Ron's, I'd be lost.

While I whole-heartedly believe in an individuals right to free speech, why
do people feel that this NG is *the* place to vent their complaints with
MS??

My only comment is that *I chose* MS and XP, if I don't like it there's a
Mac or Linux. If there's anyone to bitch at or about, *IT's Me*.

MS, XP, or Vista will have their naysayers, but why spend the energy
complaining in this forum? We (or I) is here to help. I'm a W98SE fan, but
I hope to learn enough to be useful here.

Take care, this was in no way a slam,

Hi Jerry,

the ridiculous web format before I learned of the "better

It is often necessary to resort to crudity to get through to
some people, Curt. As to posting, I have always esched web
groups because they slow and cumbersome, not because they are
bad with strange "handles". But, it took some rather blunt
whacking on me before I "discovered" that top posting isn't
nice.
A troll, yes, you may be right--but let's give the benefit
of the doubt to them. You have some good info to share--do
it. If it weren't for people like "Nutcase Rogers" and the
great duo, Ron's, I'd be lost.

Actually, I don't have much good info to share.

I can barely hold my own with my 2 PCs, despite a life
"devoted" in one way or another to computers. The problem in
today's world is that we don't have an "information
explosion", we have a "data explosion". We are being hit 24x7
with multiple fire hoses at millions of gallons per minute. It
is patently impossible to sort out the "infomation" from the
"data" by eliminating what engineers call "noise".

If I make a contribution here at all, it is to lend some
perspective to real-world experiences and to bring them that
shill for my fav company back down to earth. Like you and most
other "old hands" at this, the saying "if it can happen, it
probably has - to me" applies.
While I whole-heartedly believe in an individuals right to
free speech, why do people feel that this NG is *the* place
to vent their complaints with MS??

If you go to a car NG, you hear about how shitting cars can
be, especially American cars. If you go to a digital
photography NG, you hear complaints in one form or another
about cameras, graphics software, etc. So, it should not be a
suprise that /millions/ of otherwise polite men and women
simply hate Microsoft and everything it stands for. Think
about it, what have they done for you that you really like
lately, at a price you can afford - but most importantly -
without subjecting you to a violation of the 4th and 5th
Amendments. The last is what is being violated when /you/ have
to "prove" that your O/S is legit. WTF?!
My only comment is that *I chose* MS and XP, if I don't
like it there's a Mac or Linux. If there's anyone to bitch
at or about, *IT's Me*.

I "chose" in exactly the same way you did, Curt. More
correctly, you and I made what doctors call "diagnosis by
exclusion", meaning we didn't like Mac OS X or Linux, didn't
want to write our own, wanted to be compatible with the rest
of the world, which left us with Windoze. And, the reason I
spell it that way is that SP2 does "doze", compared to SP1,
Win 98, Win 95, and Win 3.1, each of which I ran with orders
of magnitude less CPU, RAM, HD and mobo speed.
MS, XP, or Vista will have their naysayers, but why spend
the energy complaining in this forum? We (or I) is here to
help. I'm a W98SE fan, but I hope to learn enough to be
useful here.

I just took down my last Win 98 SE PC. But, to your question,
again I will "defend" myself and all others who feel similarly
by simply saying if somebody doesn't point this stuff out, how
are the real newbies to know?
Take care, this was in no way a slam,

You, too. I take no umbrage at what you said principly because
of the way you said it, and the way you did /not/ say it.

arshole!!!

Got it off my chest, Jerry. You take care, and rest up for
yet another day ;-o

P.S., I can't say I don't disagree with you--just never
liked the "Windoze" reference, but if that's my biggest
*itch in life, I'm sitting pretty good.
Sometimes, Curt, the advice of an old friend helps - exageration
for em-pha-sis!

You take care, too, hear?!
