Have not been able to solve this really strange problem. Running Windows XP
SP2 have 1.5 GB memory and 120GB HD 256MB Video card. Don't know if that
info makes any difference or not. The problem is this, I have a very old
version (1988 pre-windows) of Hoyle card games. When I try to play the game
either thru windows or at a command prompt or in a DOS Box, about 60 seconds
into the game my computer shuts down totally and will not restart. I have to
remove the power cord for a few seconds and then plug it back in and then
computer will restart. This is the only program that has caused this problem
on this machine. I have been able to play the same game on at least two
other computers running windows XP without any problem whatsoever. Please
don't laugh, I know I can just play a newer version of the game or not play
it at all, but not knowing why this is happening is really driving me crazy.
If anyone can offer any suggestions as to the possible cause it would be
greatly appreciated.

I'm not laughing at you but without looking at your machine I can't
answer your question. Look in Event Viewer for clues:

Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

I've never seen a game cause a machine to not restart. The problems you
are describing about not being able to restart without pulling the
power plug are hardware-related, not software-related. You might try
swapping your power supply out for a known-working one.

Do you play any other games that require a CD? And they run fine?

It's not a problem with XP. Use an OS that's suited to the game you want
to play.
