Recently ran into several snags on my computer.....roomate deleted McAfee
virus scan, and firewall....installed EZ armor spyware kit, and several more
deletions and installed games and stuff onto my computer....since then, it
has been a mess. Tried to do system recovery, however, it won't let me go
back past January 1st, 2006....and there are no bold dates for me to access
in January (could he have deleted the system restore points?). So, I called
Dell to ask a simple yes/no question - can I restore my computer back to
original setup as it was at time of purchase? - and they want to charge me
$99 USD for the answer.
So, now I'm asking all of you.........can I restore my computer back to
original setup as it was at time of purchase? and if so, how?

Please help as I do alot of work from my computer, and this is putting alot
of stress on meeting deadlines, etc.

LoL, they wanted to charge you...

There should be a set of disks that came with the machine called
"Restore" or "System" or something similar. Usually you can insert the
restore disk and put everything back to default settings on your
machine. I would be suprised if Dell did not include such disks with
your machine.

Use your restore disks. If you dont have them, demand them from your PC
vendor.

You can restore your computer back to its original state if you have the
Restore (or Recovery) Disks that might jave been included with your computer.
I am not sure if Dell can provide this for you but you might want to check.
If you do have those Restore/Recovery CDs the remember that they will wipe
everythingoff your hard drive and re-install Windows and all the programs
that came with your computer when you first bought it.

A simple System Restore from Windows wont bring back McAfee or delete EZ
Armor Spyware Kit. If you cant restore your PC like you wish then I recommend
that you download Spybot S&D, Microsoft Anti-Spyware, and maybe AVG Free
edition anti-virus and do scans both in Normal and Safe mode

But, be aware that you will lose all your data if you do that. The OEM
Restore disks take the machine back to where it was when you first
purchased it.
