I was on my computer last week, doing nothing out of the
ordinary, and suddenly a list pops up and the things on
the list start uninstalling themselves. I pressed stop
because I did not initialize it. The computer wigged out
and the whole folder "My Computer" got deleted. Meaning
internet drivers, CD drivers, shared folders and printer
drivers were deleted. However, "My Documents" is intact.
System Restore does not work, we have tried 4 times. It
goes through the process fine, but when the restart
comes, nothing has changed. Now, I cannot even access
System Restore. We tried restoring with a disk, and it
worked, but then we went to a different account on the
computer and "My Computer" was still gone. This is maybe
a RAM problem or a virus?

Based on my recent experience:
Boot in Safe Mode so that you can backup all of your files
(assuming that you have not done this already).

Try a reinstall repair. I used the instructions from the
Dell website to change the boot sequence so that it would
allow a boot from the cd-rom. Use the cd backup that came
with your computer (again, I'm assuming that you have a
OEM installation of windows).

Last resort: Do a clean installation of windows. This
will wipe out your hard-drive, but it worked for my
situation. I got help from the OEM (Dell) for this
process and that was very helpful to have someone step
through it with me.

Good luck.
