Sorry but it's my first time here and I got trouble and can't understand it.

I run XP and lately my laptop is running at 100 percent and it shuts
down after a couple of minutes...also every download I have has an added
extension on it. such as "Download.exe"..it is renamed to
"Download.exe.rar" with the extra .rar extension at the end. What is
going on and what can I do about it?

Hello
Welcome to the wonderful world of computing in the 21st century, no one is
safe not even for a second without contracting one of the many virus' on the
market today.
Run this free virus scan
http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp?cid=9913

The thing most people do not know is that after they buy a computer with
virus protection installed they have to go in and register and download the
updates and continue to update it or set it to auto update then after a
period of time the subscription will run out usually in 90-180 days at that
time they will have to purchase new protection either online or from a
retail store and at that time they will be able to update for a period of
365 days (1 year).

Richard - my laptop is running at 100% as well; if you
ctrl-alt-delete and go to task manager and look under
processes see if you can find something that's running
between 50-99%; is it's a file that starts with av
something it's probably the sasser worm... get updates
at Windows...

Thanks for the help but it was to no avail. I did the free scan of 59275
files and 0 files were infected. I use Netscape 7 browser and tried to
download the scan but McAfee said I need to use Internet Explorer 6. I
downloaded it with Netscape and it came up with
"ie6setup.exe.rar"..another RAR??? I downloaded it again using Explorer
and it worked fine..maybe Netscape is corrupted somehow? I don't thing
so. Sure is strange how all my downloaded files keep coming up with the
added .rar. It doesn't harm anything cause I can rename the file and it
works well..just a bother.

Rick..thanks again for the help

Thanks also for the help. I found in the task manager that a AVI-DVD
file converter was running in the back ground resident at 75% but no av
in front of anything. I disabled it and it has cooled down
somewhat..guess it will reappear when I burn some DVD's. Still can't
figure out what the ".rar" extension being added to my downloads. I'll
have to call McAfee in the am and let them figure it out.

Thanks again
Rick

I forgot to mention that I did find a file called "isass.exe" In the
Task Manager..I hope it isn't part of sassa.
