Help!

I am working on a scrapbook-type web site that I would like to have in my own
handwriting because people tend to write in scrapbooks. I got my handwriting
made into fonts for just that reason. I was told if you want to use an
uncommon font, to use "Paint" and import it, but then my pages end up taking
30 seconds or more to download. I know nobody will want to wait that long to
read my articles. I have seen other web sites with uncommon fonts--how do
they do it?
 
The problem is there is no cross browser method available, and users have to be willing to allow the
font to be downloaded to their machine.
