is there anyway, since i had to restore my computer to get the old files back like you could with 95 & 98? Please i am in despirate need of getting those files back quickly!

hey man dont panic they should be if u chose to save them in your C:/ under
disk structure.

Hi,

A lot depends on how you "restored". Did you clean install by formatting? Or
did you install over the top? The former means that you have very little
chance of recovery, as the new installation overwrote the existing
designated free space on the drive. The latter may simply indicate that the
files are in folders related to the old installation.

ok, i didn't reformat the disk, just overwrote the former os. Can anyone please offer help as to where these files would be? I have found the old programs, however not my old documents file. Please someone shed some light on this. I must have these files back they are a matter of retaining my employment or not. So, PLEASE HELP ME.

First, open Windwos Explorer to C:\Documents and Settings and see if there
are remnants of the old system here. If so, peek through the folders of the
old profiles. Otherwise, they were probably overwritten, but you can try an
undelete utility to see if anything is recoverable. This one here works
quite well for basic file recovery:
http://www.collina.us/files/REST2514.htm

But keep in mind that this will only help if the files have not been badly
damaged by the reinstall.
