help! working online/offline windows2000

how do i change from working offline to online on windows 2000?,...reason i
am asking is that the kids cant get onto msn messenger as it says i am
currently working offline even though i am connected to the
internet!!,....any ideas anyone??,...
any help greatly appreciated

In IE > File > uncheck 'Work offline.'

Roger, my browser comes up "working offline" every time I open it. I uncheck it every time, but that is tiresome, since I never work offline. I've looked in properties and settings, but don't recognize a way to stop it. thanks.

Have you done a scan looking for malware with updated ad-aware and
spybot, both free?

If you have and no joy, consider reinstalling IE.
Copy and paste the following line to the Start > Run prompt, it will
try to reinstall IE and the routine will need the XP CD.
Alternatively, try to point it to the dllcache folder and the
ServicePackFiles\i386 folder.

rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %systemroot%\inf\ie.inf

Be sure to visit Windows Update afterwards.
