I'm having problems with windows xp. Sometimes when I click on programs like
Internet Explorer, or Outlook Express, they won't load. I can hibernate my
computer and then when I turn it on, they open. Programs like My Computer,
My Documents will open. (I think this is because these are a Windows program
that is already running.) After a while, they open, but that is after I
click about 50 times on each program. What is wrong? Thanks

What is the virus/malware status of the computer? If you think it is
clean, what programs (and versions) did you use to determine this? Make
sure:

If the machine is really clean, post back with more details. It can be
very hard for a non-technical person to know what to include in a post
to a tech support newsgroup. Here is a link that will help you with
that - http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm

I have done an Anti-Virus, Spybot S&D, Lavasoft Ad-aware, and Microsoft
AntiSpyware. They all turned up nothing.

Look in Event Viewer for clues.
Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

Since we don't know anything about your computer (remember the link I
pointed you to that explained what details to include in a newsgroup
post?) there really isn't any way to give you focused help.

What changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?

Have you done any hardware troubleshooting?

The only hardware I have installed that might be it is some more memory. The
guy said it would work with my computer (Dell Inspiron 1150.) I had a 256 MB
preinstalled and then ordered a 512 MB. Same speed, same size. I downloaded
the memtest program will run it. The anti-virus and spyware programs where
the latest version. If I have task manager open before it starts not working,
it will show all of the programs I launch but they are at about 2,000 K or
so. They don't increase in Mem usage until it sits a while then it usually
launches all the programs. I can hibernate it but then it won't hibernate
because it won't show the hibernate screen. It just shows my desktop
background with no icons no programs no taskbar. Then after about 1 minute it
starts hibernating and then when I boot up the computer, the programs are
there.

Since you added memory, that's where you need to start troubleshooting.

look like there was anything in the Event Viewer that had to do with my
problem nor was there any thing is System Events.

Then I'm sorry, but I don't know. You say you've checked for malware,
for programs starting, for hardware. I don't know what else to tell you
except it would be more useful for you to take the laptop to someone
who can actually see the machine. There are limits to what someone just
reading about the issue can do whereas someone who has hands-on the
computer may diagnose the problem(s) immediately.

Good luck,

Malke
