I know i'm probably in the wrong newsgroup for this post but so far it's the
only one i have subscribed to being that i'm new with posting through OE6.
Anyway.......my problem is that all of a sudden on my new computer with
Windows XP one of my favorite websites doesn't load all the way and when i
hit chat.......it won't take me to the websites chat. I don't know if it's
Java related or my web browser. It doesn't matter what i use to connect to
the internet. Whether it be IE....Earthlink....Verizon.....AOL or MSN. The
same problem happens in all of them. If someone can help me out......I'd
appreciate it.......Thanx .......Patty

Hi, Patty. For your next post, please use complete sentences without all
the trailing periods. They make your posts hard to read. Please repost
and include the url of the site where you're having difficulties so
that others can check it out for you.

How do i find the URL? The website itself is CBS.com and I usually go into
the Survivor Chat once i click on Survivor. I'll go see if i can find the
URL although i have no idea of how to find it. I'll play around a bit.
Thanx Patty

Usually when someone is having difficulties on the Internet, the first
troubleshooting steps to take are:

1) scan with current antivirus ("current" means a version not earlier
than 2002 but using updated virus definitions); 2) remove spyware with
Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org) and Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com). These programs are free, so use them both since
they complement each other. Be sure to update these programs before
running, and it is a good idea to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode.

When you know your computer is virus and spyware-free, if you are still
having problems, then repost. You might also try uninstalling and
reinstalling Java from http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp/ .

I never disable my firewall, I do turn my anti-virus off
when doing Windows Updates.

i just scanned with Adaware and Spybot. After that i did a virus scan with
Norton AV. Everything was clean. I then went to re-install Java. It
installed but then towards the end of the installation i got a message
saying it couldn't completely install everything. Then i got a box saying
something about error 1722. I checked the website i was talking about an i
am able to get to my "Survivor Chat " so i was wondering if all is ok now?
Going to check the Add/Remove to see if Java is listed in there. If anyone
has any knowledge of "error 1722" in Java, I appreciate the info. Thanx
again Patty

Sorry! Me again! I did disable my firewall when i tried to install Java
again. Like i said, when i went to the website it was working. I just
noticed that when i enabled my firewall again and went to the website, the
same problem happens. Can't get into the chat with the firewall enabled.
Is there a reason for this? I also noticed (and I hate to say this) that i
can't get live support from AOL either. That's what led me to believe that
maybe my Java might have been corrupted. I know how so many people in here
want nothing to do with AOL, and, personally, i would do away with it
myself, it's just that my 8 and 13 year old son's really like it. Anyway,
any reasons why i can't do these things with the firewall enabled. Is there
a way to configure my firewall so i am able to? I have Norton Internet
Security 2004. It's a brand new computer. Thanx again Patty
