I give up (almost) - which is the 'quick launch' part of the taskbar?
You've already gotten good advice on your question. I wanted to add
something about the terminology you're using, which may help answer your
question above.
You asked about the Task Bar, but that's apparently not what you really
mean. The Task iBar s the place where running programs show, where you get a
short bar with the name of the program and an icon. You can click on that
short bar to minimize or restore that running program. You can't put icons
on it or take them off, except by starting and stopping programs (and I
don't think that's what you want to do).
Your interest, I believe, is the place that holds shortcut icons to start
frequently-used programs. It's not called the Task Bar, but is a toolbar of
its own, called the Quick Launch Bar. It's not really the "Quick Launch part
of the taskbar," but because it appears *on* the Task Bar by default, many
people will call it that loosely. It's that Quick Lanch Bar where you want
to add your Firefox and Outlook Express icons.
As I said, the Quick Launch Bar is a separate toolbar, not really part of
the Task Bar, but it appears by default on the left side of the Tak Bar,
just to the right of the Start button. However, because it's a ctually a
separate toolbar, it doesn't have to be there and can be dragged elsewhere,
for example to another side of the screen. One configuration that I
particularly like is to drag the Quick Launch to the left side of the screen
(make sure the Tak Bar is unlocked first, if you try this) where there's
room for many shortcut icons without swhortening the Task Bar itself.
